Appetite to Play Workshops

The Appetite to Play website offers a range of planning tools training opportunities and recommended practices for healthy eating and physical activity in the early years.

As well as e-learning courses on Healthy Eating and Physical Literacy, Appetite to Play offer 3-hour in person workshops. Please note that the content for the in-person workshops is similar to that offered in the 2-hour online workshop, so it is recommended to take one or the other rather than both.

The workshop, led in real time by a live instructor, is designed for early years providers who are interested in learning more about physical activity and healthy eating for children 0-5 years old, and who want to increase their capacity in this field. The workshops count towards professional development credits for early childhood educators. The workshops share planning tools, self-assessments, recipes, games and activities, and include an overview of the resource-rich Appetite to Play website.

The online workshops cost $25 + tax and require a computer/phone and internet connection. Workshops are offered between 10 am–12 noon, or 6 pm–8pm on several dates throughout autumn 2019. For more information email atpinfo@cw.bc.ca or call Lorna Simms at 604-877-6416.

Some of the resources on the website include lunch ideas, the Canadian 24 hour movement guidelines for the early years, games and activities, outdoor discovery ideas, and a group of “Lift and Look” activities to do with 0–12 month infants.

The site also includes tools to reduce planning time for the incorporation of healthy eating and movement into programming, along with an assessment tracker to monitor progress.
