Led by a desire to support people as they continue to face challenging times themselves during COVID at the same time as they are trying to support others, either on the frontline or from afar, the Caring Society have compiled a list of resources and links under the headings of General, Professional, Families and Educators, Children and Youth, and Indigenous Communities.
The General Resources offer links to Government of Canada benefits and supports, a Lancet analysis of health and societal impacts of pandemics and recessions, an Angus Reid Institute article explaining the data from their study of the impact of COVID-19 on Canadians’ emotional and psychological wellbeing, hints for staying safe online, and insights and practical advice for navigating difficult feelings during the pandemic.
The Resources for Professionals links include resources with medical information, trauma-informed pandemic strategies for supporting children and youth, resources on child protection during the pandemic, equity and social justice around health inequities, structural challenges faced by Indigenous communities during the pandemic, World Health Organization (WHO) and Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) reports and information, information for those providing fostering support during COVID.
The resources for Families and Educators page includes a variety of links, including UNICEF and WHO resources, tips for supporting mental health for ourselves and others, 12 easy and fun mental health tips from School Mental Health Ontario practices to try with your children, Shaw and EverFi free lessons for K-12, answers to questions about pet health during COVID, and support information for families with children with cerebral palsy.
Resources for Indigenous Communities offers links to governmental and other supports specific to Indigenous communities, online one-to-one Elder support, videos, colouring sheets, and the FNHA online portal link offering supports for BC First Nations people, their healthcare providers and community leaders.
