Active for Life offers a video and worksheets to assist parents in helping their children to create new ‘Easy Habits’ around screen time.

Noting that “Too much screen time hurts our kids. It keeps them from active play and it causes them anxiety, depression and other problems. Yet trying to ‘control’ screen time doesn’t seem to work. Mostly it just creates conflict,“ Active for Life offers a short video explaining the concept of Easy Habits at https://activeforlife.com/easyhabits/ along with three downloadable posters full of suggestions. There is also a downloadable Easy Habits worksheet on which to create one’s own ideas.

The three posters are:

  • Bedtime

    • New habit: Turn off screens for better sleep.

    • Time: One hour before bed.

    • Celebrate: Sing a song? Read a story? Something else?

  • Clean Up

    • New habit: Clean your room.

    • Time: Whenever you want screen time.

    • Celebrate: High fives? Funky dance? Something else?

  • Meal Time

    • New habit: Leave screen devices in another room.

    • Time: When you sit for a meal.

    • Celebrate: Say “I rock”? Share hi-fives? Something else?
